TIDEP-01012: How to reduce FW loading time

Part Number: TIDEP-01012
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243,

Hi,

When using mmWave Studio with TIDEP-01012 cascading radar EVM, it takes about 1 min 45 sec to load xwr22xx_metaImage.bin to 4 AWR2243 devices.

Are there any idea to reduce the loading time?

(1)    Is SPI clock frequency 40MHz? Is it possible to change it to higher setting?

(2)    At first we load the FW to master device, and then load to 3 slave devices at once. Is it possible to load to the master and the 3 slaves at once?

(3)    Is it possible to reduce the size of xwr22xx_metaImage.bin by removing unused region in the image?

(4)    Any other ideas?

Thanks I& Regards,

-Shibata

  • Hello Shibata,

    1) Application on TDA2x is already using an efficient SPI clock to communicate with AWR device.

    2) Master device needs to loaded first and then only slaves are enabled to listen firmware. so all devices (master + 3 slaves) can not be loaded together.

    3) THis is not possible. Currently for AWR2243 ES1.0, it is RAM image and a big size. But with ES1.1 version it will patch file and will be very small size.

    4) sFalsh is connected to each AWR device on RF board, so firmware can be loaded to flash and then at next boot up SPI firmware load is not required as it is now loaded via flash. Here is the LUA script to flash the firmware files to all the AWR devices, make sure to change the IP address, firmware path.
