IWR6843: About clock source

Part Number: IWR6843

IWR6843 Data Sheet 1.1 Features has the following description.

・Clock source
– 40.0 MHz crystal with internal oscillator

Does the IWR6843 have an internal 40MHz oscillator?

If the IWR6843 has an internal oscillator, what is it used for?
For example, boot loader etc.

Best Regards,
Hiroyuki Taguchi

  • Hiroyuki-san,

Yes, IWR6843 device has internal internal Crystal Oscillator. External 40Mhz crystal is used for this Oscillator. This Oscillator followed by clock slicer is used as a reference to Analog PLL for cleaning the jitter, this output will be fed as a reference to Synthesizer.

Analog PLL is also used as clock multiplier for generating various SOC clocks in the system such as ARM processor clock, DSP processor clock and other peripheral clocks.  Below diagram from the IWR6843 datasheet shows high level overview of this.

    Thanks and regards,
