AWR1642: Radar won't start

Part Number: AWR1642
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01570

Hello,

I designed a board using the AWR1642 chip based on the TIDA-01570 automotive reference design. In mmWave demo when I upload the "profile_2d_srr.cfg" configuration in the folder "profile" to the board, the radar won't start. In the console, it won't show any errors and it seems after initializing the radar successfully it will reset automatically. The same goes for most of the configs with high maximum detectable velocity.

However if I increase the idle time by a few microseconds the radar will start with no problem. The same thing happens in SRR demo as well. I was wondering what causes this?

Best Regards

Ali

  • Hello Ali,

If you increase the chirp idle time, so in that case you need to increase the whole frame periodicity as well to have the same sufficient frame idle available.

Now in the application ideally it should return an error when this kind of issue happens, but even you can connect CCS to the device and check the device status for any error. Follow mmWave SDK user guide for 'ccs development mode' and load mmw demo debug image over CCS (JTAG).

Please confirm that you observer 'xWR16xx MMW Demo 02.00.00.04' print again on the console as soon as you send the profile_2d_srr.cfg, if that is the case that means it is resetting the device.

And I see that you are using very old mmwave SDK version, for AWR1642 ES2.0 you should move to at least SDK v2.1 version or SDK 3.3
