IWR6843ISK: How to use IWR6843ISK EVM to realize the function of counting the number of people coming and going?

Part Number: IWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDEP-01000, IWR1642, IWR6843

Hi, there.
I used IWR6843ISK EVM, flash memory for pplcount_lab_xwr68xx.bin(C:\ti\mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_1_0\labs\people_counting\68xx_people_counting\prebuilt_binaries) firmware.I want to use STM32 chip combined with IWR6843ISK EVM to realize the function of counting the number of people in and out. Here are my questions:

1. According to the number of targets and their positions in the current detection area observed by pplcount_lab_xwr68xx.bin firmware, can the firmware achieve the function of counting the number of people in and out?

2. Or is there a millimeter wave firmware or SAMPLE specifically designed for this function?

3. In tideP-01000, documentation <The Reference Design for Personnel Tracking and Counting using Millimeter wave radar Sensors (rev. C) >.It was mentioned in page 5 that the direction of the target can be inferred. Is there any relevant program reference or program processing?

4. In tideP-01000, documentation <The Reference Design for Personnel Tracking and Counting using Millimeter wave radar Sensors (rev. C)>;It has been mentioned in page 6 that TI's millimeter-wave sensor can support motion detection and human count of millimeter wave technology to achieve human count, but the mentioned millimeter-wave sensor is IWR1642 device. Can IWR6843ISK EVM device realize this function?Which firmware should be flash?Or is there a reference program or algorithmic analysis?

5.FIG. 6 also mentions that the block diagram of the processing chain realized by the software in IWR1642 is provided in the reference design of the number of people statistics. Could you please tell me where there is a more detailed analysis?

Hope to get your help, thanks a lot.

  • Hi User,

Thank you for using the E2E forums.

1&2. During the people counting demo, the EVM will send velocity and acceleration information for each tracked person within the GUI. You can use this information to create a count on the GUI showing a count of the number of people entering and leaving the area.

    3. You can utilize the method I have described above to accomplish this processing in your own applications.

    4. I believe you are referencing documentation for the IWR1642, which is not ideal since you have the IWR6843 EVM. Please refer to this documentation which is the most up-to-date and pertains to your specific device.

    5. The document I provided has a detailed explanation of the hardware and software block diagrams in regards to the datapath processing chain.

Please let me know if this answered your questions sufficiently.
