AMC6821: Any Reset Methods When the SMbus Communication Fail

Part Number: AMC6821

Hi team,

This is a question from my customer.

When they use two AMC6821 in a SMbus interface, sometimes the communication of one of AMC6821 will fail. They are not able to write or read to AMC6821 through SMbus.

Any solutions can make the AMC6821 to reset in this situation? Such as reset Pin or other?

Thank you~

Best Regards,

Xing

  • Hi Xing,

Can you send failed SMB bus transaction?  There should be no issue with having two AMC6821 on the same bus as long as they have different addresses.

There is a software reset in ( bit 7 Configuration Register 2) that you can try to use or you can rest the device via a power cycle.

    Thanks,

    David

  • Hi David,

    Thanks for your reply.

No, when AMC6821 fail the SMbus communication, it can't  send response signal to MCU.

I’m afraid it is also can't reset by software because the signal is also from MCU.

How to reset via a power cycle? I suppose we need hardware reset.

Any your suggestion about this issue? Thanks~

    Best Regards,

    Xing

  • Xing,

Please send me the transaction where AMC6821 will not response to MCU command.

Power cycle would be bringing the AMC6821 voltage low enough for the device to reset then bringing the power back to normal operating voltage.

    Thanks,

    David
