Greetings. I am interested in both the HDC2021 and HDC2022 for a refrigerated compartment application that requires humidity monitoring. Our nominal ambient will be between 2°C-8°C during normal operation. Humidity will be near or at condensing.

Since we have a condensing environment, I like the HDC2022 with the IP67 protective cover, however I may also need to conformal coat the PCA where this sensor will be installed. For that reason I also see the advantage of the HDC2021 with the protective tape.

Which would be better? Are there recommendations for a protective tape or cover for the HDC2022 for masking purposes?

    Hi Charles,

    Thank you for your post.

    I would say given your risk of condensation it makes the most sense to go with the HDC2022. Before conformal coating the HDC2022 would have to be masked with a polyimide tape to be removed later.

    Hi Brandon. Thanks for the quick reply.

    I am assuming that the tape would be applied over or directly on the protective filter? Are there any concerns with the glue on the polyimide tape compromising the filter? I have not seen a part directly so I do not know if the filter is recessed or not.

    Hi Charles,

    The filter on the HDC2022 isn't recessed, but the polymer underneath the tape is. So the tape would be directly on the filter during conformal coating. 

    My experience is that the adhesive on these tapes leaves no visible residue, but I am checking with some of our internal teams to make sure I'm correct about that. Give me just a day or two to check it out and i'll update you via this thread once I've found out.
