IWR6843: the cause and resolution for RadarSS power-on error

Hi community member,

I have received the following report for designing using IWR6843 sample by my customer.
Please tell me the cause and solution.

● Symptoms
RadarSS fail to start at when it power-on ( or reset is released).
Occurred in 2 out of 22 units.

● Survey content
They confirmed the value of address 0xFFFFE1EC according to the following thread: e2e.ti.com/.../3124873
Normal product : 0x000F0028
Abnormal product : 0x000D0028

We don't know what is wrong with the IWR6843 chip.
So we don't know how to solve it.

Please provide the following information:

1. What is the silicon revision of these IWR6843 devices. Refer this page: How to Determine Silicon Revision

2. Which version of MMWAVE-SDK is being used.

Hi Nitin,

1. They use IWR6843 ES1.0 devices.

2. They use MMWAVE-SDK 3.2.0.4.

Hi Cruijff,

Thanks for providing the requested information. The values you provided indicate that this IWR6843 ES 1.0 device has an irrecoverable failure during boot-up. This issue was identified in IWR6843 ES1.0 and was resoled in IWR6843 ES2.0 (i.e. the production device).

To avoid the possibility of this issue, please replace those devices with ES2.0 silicon which is available on TI.com.

Will you update the symptom to Errata sheet?
Does this trouble have the cause for ES1.0 device internal?
Can it be taken measures from outsides?

Hi Cruijff,

Could you please submit documentation feedback for the IWR6843 Errata document using the "Submit Documentation Feedback" link provided at every page of the errata document?

As explained in the post linked above, the values indicate an irrecoverable failure on the affected IWR6843 ES1.0 device and it cannot be fixed using any external means.

ES1.0 devices are Pre-RTM/experimental devices meant to support early evaluation and development. We recommend using the ES2.0 device which is the production silicon.
