Hi,

I am trying to get 3d images of the surrounding space in a range of 3 meters using AWR1843, but I can't manage to detect the shape of obstacles using the 3d point cloud demo.

Is there a way to have 3d imaging by modifying signal processing algorithm or is the device not precise enough ? In this case, do you have any recommendations on which device could meet my criteria ? I already know the TIDEP-01012 and I want to know if there is other good options.

Hello,

we would recommend you to see how the data from mmWave devices look after post processing for single sensor by look at OOB demo snapshot.

The Link you have included points to Cascade version of boards which uses multiple mmWave devices to get higher angular resolution.

If you can provide more information about you application needs we may be able to guide you towards the right options.

Thank you for your answers.

I am working on an indoor moving robotic plateform. I need to detect obstacles in a range of 3 meters, especially glass obstacles like glass tables or glass shelf.

Using the AWR1843, I have difficulties detecting a 50cm glass panel at 2m when it is not placed perpendicularly to the radar. Also, I would like to detect all the width of the obstacles in order to use pathfinding algorithm, not just the closest point of each obstacle.

My usage of the radar is like in The Autonomous Robotics with ROS for mmWave lab in the Industrial toolbox. Does the mapping showed in this lab work when applied in a larger scale (in around 3m range) ?

Hi,

The mmwave ROS example works for 3m ranges. How-ever the angular resolution you are looking for will need cascade option.

How-ever current cascade https://www.ti.com/tool/MMWCAS-RF-EVM offering doesn't have ROS support.
