PGA450-Q1: development tools

Part Number: PGA450-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA460-Q1, PGA460, MSP-EXP430F5529LP, BOOSTXL-PGA460

Software development guide for PGA450 mentions using Keil C51 Development Tool for 8051 devices.  Can we use other 8051 development systems like IAR Workbench instead?

Thanks

Viktorija

  • Hi Viktorija,

Yes, the PGA450-Q1's 8051 development can also be done in IAR Workbench instead of Keil C51. Note, we have only experience with and used Keil C51 for our TI based examples.

May I ask why you are using the old PGA450-Q1 instead of the newer PGA460-Q1? The PGA460-Q1 offers improved performance, lower cost, and a smaller package than the PGA450-Q1. The PGA460-Q1 does not include an integrated MCU, and uses a digital state machine instead, so it is easier to program/configure.

You can read more about the PGA460-Q1 and other newer devices in the Ultrasonic E2E FAQ: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/748143

  • Thanks, Akeem. They are still int he decision stage, and will consider the PGA460.

Which EVM would you recommend they start with?

I see w have a few reference designs, but if you have other guidance - I would be intersted.

    Thanks

  • Hi Viktorija,

The BOOSTXL-PGA460 EVM is my recommended evaluation platform for PGA460-Q1 development because it includes the one-wire transceiver circuit used to evaluate the automotive targeted Time Command Interface (TCI) and One-Wire UART (OWU) interface options available on the PGA460-Q1. Note, they will also need the MSP-EXP430F5529LP to fully evaluate the EVM.
