DRV5057: Detection direction of DRV5057

Part Number: DRV5057
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV5055,

Figure 18 on the data sheet shows which side of the IC is approached by the S-pole when looking at the IC from the top surface?

I have the same diagram in the DRV5055 data sheet, can you tell me which side of the S pole is closer to the DRV5055?

  • Thank you for your question.  It actually does not matter to DRV5057 which direction the magnet is approaching from in this case (assuming a symmetrical magnet).  DRV5057 or DRV5055 will only detect the portion of the B Field which is passing through the sensor perpendicular to the top surface of the package.  In this case, the magnetic flux density will be greatest in magnitude as the poles of the magnet move over the sensor.  When the pole transition is centered directly above the sensor, the result should be zero.  This happens because at this point the field is travelling entirely parallel to the length of the axis of polarization.

Your resulting field would looking something like this.  Peak amplitudes and range of motion will depend on the size of your magnet and material grade.

  • Thank you for your answer.
    I understand.
I will get back to you if I have any further questions.
