IWR6843: What is the minimum power consumption in people counting mode

Part Number: IWR6843

Hello experts, I would like to ask if there is a way to reduce the power consumption to the minimum and if you have tested or calculated it. We are using a custom board based in the IWR684ISK, but with the minimum components and a low power consumption host MCU, so the principal concern is the power consumption of the IWR6843 IC itself, we have measured up to 4W when the BOOST board is working with the IWR6843ISK boards are connected but we believe there is much power being used for the host board and other ICs in the DEV board too.

Do you have a paper that can give us guidance how to optimize the  configuration and operation to have the minimum consumption?

I Thank you in advance for any possible help in this situation.

  • Hi Tomas,

Being an evaluation module, the IWR6843 + ICBOOST draws much more power than a production mmWave Module would. typically, device power draw is around 1.5 W, and will hit a ceiling at 2 Watts. Power draw can be significantly reduced past this if you can duty cycle the device - turning it completely off between frames

    2 FPS duty cycled - < 300 mW

    4 FPS duty cycled - < 500 mW

    Regards,
