IWR6843: How to burn a .bin image to IWR6843 through a MCU?

Hi Support team

In my application, there is a MCU(STM32F103) to control the whole board. IWR6843 RS232_RX/RS232_TX(CFG UART) are connected to MCU’s UART0, MSS_logger is connected to MCU’s UART1. The .bin image has been stored in a FLASH which is connected to MCU’s SPI interface. Now I want to use MCU to burn the IWR6843 (Using MCU firmware to simulate the function of UniFlash), are there some examples/DEMO available?

I have studied the case and the thread, it looks that is not what I want. :(

There is no other SPI interface in my MCU, all of them are used for other purposes( SPI flash, sensor and so on), so I have to use UART to burn the flash of IWR6843.

So, is there more information about this usage available?

Hi,

The process of flashing can be accomplished at an embedded platform level, flashing here means downloading the binary to the the SFLASH connected to the QSPI lines of the IWR6843.

However, can you confirm if Bootmode – UART paragraph of section 4.4 applies to your application. Please note that we do not currently provide example for this.

The description in the section 4.4 applies to my application fully, however it looks too brief to guide us to complete the firmware design. For example, the initial handshake starts with a UART break issued
by the external host. how to generate a "UART Break "? Is this a command code or a hardware signal?

Could you help to promote the R&D to develop a example?

Hi,

The UART Break is a command code.

There is currently no set timeline for this example.

Please refer to Page13 of the 6843 bootloader appnote: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/swra627/swra627.pdf

The bootloading over the UART also follows the same sequence as flashing sequence.The METAIMAGE received over the UART is interpreted and loaded to the appropriate memories. Once the bootloading is complete, the ROM is eclipsed and execution control is passed to the application residing in MSS TCMA. The METAIMAGE should not have the CRC32 appended (unlike the image to be flashed)

Changes needed:

The open command should select the Storage type SRAM (Value: 4)

The ‘WRITE to SRAM” command is to be used for writing.
