PGA460PSM-EVM: Connect PGA460PSM EVM to GUI - Which firmware to use?

Part Number: PGA460PSM-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529, , ENERGIA, MSP-EXP430F5529LP, PGA460, BOOSTXL-PGA460

Hello all,

I have the following setup: I'm using the MSP430F5529 LaunchPad as Master Controller and want to connect the PGA460PSM as slave to it. So far I've connected the devices according the "PGA460PSM-EVM Users Guide" (slau817) in USART mode (according chapter 2.2.2.1).

For my understanding the EVM GUI is conceived for the BOOSTXL460 package, hence after connecting the LP to the PC and running the GUI, I get the dialog to upload the boostxl460 firmware on the LP. Is there a specific firmware for the PGA460PSM module or what do I need to do in order to configure my PGA460PSM inside the EVM GUI?

I want to fintune the PGA since I already got the sample codes via Energia running, but the results were not satisfying, e.g. for the "GetDistance" sample.

Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Sensonit,

Yes, it is possible to evaluate the PGA460PSM-EVM or any other PGA460 board with the MSP-EXP430F5529LP using the GUI software in UART mode (standard GUI) mode.

The GUI operates primarily in the UART mode, so when you connect the PGA460PSM-EVM's UART pins to the MSP-EXP430F5529LP (PGA460 TXD to MSP430 P3.4 and PGA460 RXD to MSP430 P3.3). Also, ensure you establish a common ground between the GND pin of the PSM-EVM and LaunchPad, and supply the PGA460 PWR pin with a voltage of 6 to 28V.

You need to load the LaunchPad with the boostxl460 firmware as prompted to use the LaunchPad and GUI with any PGA460 board (BOOSTXL-PGA460 or PGA460PSM-EVM).
