IWR6843ISK: LVDS interface data rate configuration

Part Number: IWR6843ISK

Hi,

The LDVS interface configuration provides option to set the data rate to specified values. One way to modify this option is using mm-wave studio, and for 1243, using DFP as well.

We are trying to capture raw data from 6843ISK using CLI (command line interface) option in which we use command line to both configure the radar for LVDS data capture as well as configure the DCA to receive data. Could you let me know how we can figure the LVDS data rate in this mode of operation? We don't see the option to for data rate configuration either in the radar config file or in DCA config json file.

In addition, in the LVDS electrical characteristic, the Offset voltage and Differential swing have a wide range. I was hoping that typically, these values would remain at the mid-levels, but surprisingly, the typical values are omitted. Why is it? Do the values get fixated at some level in between for each radar chip? Or do the values swing widely?

Thanks

Best regards,

Arvind

  • Hello Arvind,

LVDS swing could be adjusted based on the drive capability of the LVDS driver, depending upon the drive strength typical value could be different, Hence typical value is not provided. For a given drive strength value swing would be stable and will not wing widely.  For default case you could use mid value between min/max number.

For the LVDS data rate change through CLI interface allow couple of days to check with the team and get back to you.

    Thanks and regards,

  • Hello

Please look at the technical reference manual to understand the LVDS module on the device and configuration options.

Also please see the Out oF Box demo implementation for LVDS data out options to see the use of drivers for this modeul.

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav

  • Hi Vaibhav and Chethan,

Thank you for clarifying on LVDS differential swing and offset level. However, I'm still unclear on setting LVDS data rate for 6843isk. I couldn't find anything concrete in technical reference manual on this topic, although I did find registers setting for data rate in "mmWave Radar Interface Control Document." I have attached a screenshot of it. While I know that these register values can be set in mmWave Studio, my question is the following:

Is it possible to set the data rate using radar profile configuration file that is sent over RS232? If it is, could you please provide the configuration command? If not, is it at all possible to modify the data rate over RS232? Or a SPI connection is a must (which is used for interface with Studio) to change the LVDS data rate?

In addition, what is the default data rate and frame rate for mmWave demo image for 6843isk? I couldn't find any reference to how the frame rate is computed.

    Thank you

    Arvind

  • HI, Arvind:

Can you let us know what is the rate you have experienced? and what is the rate you are target at?

    Best,
