IWR6843AOPEVM: mmWave SDK

Hello,

There are a few processes that I would like to accomplish with the IWR6843AOPEVM for object detection and avoidance. These include detecting an object within a certain threshold, e.g. within 4 meters, and when object breaks this threshold, provide an audible alert through a buzzer and visual alert by RGB LED lights. The buzzer and LED lights would occur simultaneously. All by being powered by Li battery.

To program the EVM in order accomplish this use case, does one need to be versed specifically in the mmWave SDK (TI mmWave experience) or can one with just C/C++ language experience without specific TI mmWave SDK experience program the EVM to accomplish those processes for this use case?

Hi Casey,

In general, you would need to be familiar with parts of the SDK that suit your application. However, we do have demos that may ramp up your development. For example, and though it may not suit your application, have you tried the Area Scanner Demo in the Industrial Toolbox? It may provide some ideas for the object detection process such as detecting when objects are within the 4 meter specification.

As for controlling the buzzer and LED lights, whichever interface you are using, you will probably have to understand the development process from the SDK.

Thank you Sabeeh. Do you have any recommendations of where to find someone with this type of TI SDK experience or where I can find help for this use case? It may not matter, but I live in the Los Angeles area. Thank you.
