FDC1004: Capacitance of bypass capacitor connected to VDD

Part Number: FDC1004

Dear TI Team

I would like to ask about FDC1004

There is the following description about the bypass capacitor connected to VDD.

I would like to answer the following questions.
1. In the Pin Configuration, the 1μF type is indicated as a tantalum capacitor, but in the above it is indicated as a ceramic capacitor.
Is it okay if both capacitors connected to VDD are ceramic capacitors?

2. If the capacitance of the capacitor connected to VDD is smaller than 1.0 μF or 0.1 μF due to DC bias, is there a case where the output data (I2C) value of FDC1004 differs from the capacitance value connected to the input?

Regards,

Y.Ottey

  • Hi Ottey,

    Please find my answers below:

    1. There is no issue with having both ceramic capacitors. EVM has ceramic caps for both C20 and C1 caps

    2. No, These capacitors help reduce the noise in the power supply. If the VDD is clean then the Output of FDC1004 is independent of cap on the VDD.

    Regards

    Sharath.
