IWR6843 : Facing Issues while flashing and configuring Rev D IWR6843 ISK boards

Part Number: AWR1243
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843ISK, MMWAVEICBOOST

Hi TI Team,

Previously we were using Rev B IWR6843ISK boards, now we got few more IWR6843ISK boards with Rev D.

We are following the same procedure for flashing and configuring the boards but observing some issue in New Boards (Rev. D):

- When we are pressing NRST switch with new antenna while sending configuration file each time as like we  do for old antenna,  configuration not being sent.

- Sometimes observing inconsistency in sending configuration and running application.

- When P3 header shorted, configuration is failing even after pressing NRST.

- When P3 is opened, configuration was successful.

- Also sometimes getting error for the command " b'\rmmwDemo:/>heatmapGenCfg -1 1 0 17 50 60.0 3.0\n' b'Error: Invalid usage of the CLI command\n' staticDetectionCfg -1 0 -50.0 +50.0 -20.0 20.0 0.7 6.0 0.2 4 b'\rError -1\n' b'\rmmwDemo:/>staticDetectionCfg -1 0 -50.0 +50.0 -20.0 20.0 0.7 6.0 0.2 4\n' b'Error: Invalid usage of the CLI command\n' b'\rError -1\n' % "

Attaching picture of Rev D antenna.

May i learn any specific change and difference between Rev B and Rev D?

If any document , kindly share.

Thanks

Shraddha

  • Hello,

Could you please help us to understand which P3 header you are referring to?

Is this observation for stand alone configuration or with the mmWaveICBoost.? Is it working fine with stand-alone configuration?

Please note that new EVMs are capable of operating without mmWaveICBoost board.

In the EVM design package has the revision history of the board changes.

You could refer to the below package

        https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/swrr164

Below PDF file provides the revision history and changes done.

  • Hi Chethan,

    Thanks for your response.

Please find the following images of setup showing the P3 header which we are mentioning.

We are uding IWR6843ISK antenna with MMWAVEICBOOST.

Please find below image of entire setup.

May i learn if any specific change needed in flashing and running application procedure?

and we are using area scanner aplication form industrial toolbox 4.2.1, is industrial toolbox version matters for board revisions?

Because sometimes we are getting error in heatmapgen Config as mentioned earlier.

We are following the same procedure as like Rev. B ISK anetanna.

Please let us know if any additional information.

    Thanks

  • Shraddha,

Above images are not showing up in the e2e thread.

For stand alone and working with carrier board switch positions are different. Please refer to EVM user guide for the S1 switch position.

On the carrier board please ensure to remove J13 jumper on the carrier board.  J13 Jumper must be removed without removing the J13 jumpers flashing will have problems. The user manual shows that the default state for J13 is open. We have noticed on the some of the EVM shipped from the factory had pre-installed these jumpers. This need to be removed for flashing purpose.

Is there a reason that new EVM need to be connected with the carrier board? You could operate the new below EVM without the carrier board with appropriate switch settings.

In the stand alone configuration you need to configure switch settings for SOP lines, and UART port connectivity to USB UART on J5 USB connector.

Please refer to EVM user guide for more informaton.

    Thanks and regards,

    CHETHAN KUMAR Y.B.

  • Hi Chethan,

    Thanks for your response.

These are the images showing p3 header ,which you can not see in my previous message.

    Thanks

  • Hi Chethan,

Also could you please help me to get the user guide for, how to use IWR6843ISK board standalone mode without MMWAVEICBOOST?

Please share the doument for user guide if you have

    Also,

we are using area scanner aplication form industrial toolbox 4.2.1, is industrial toolbox version matters for board revisions?

Because sometimes we are getting error in heatmapgen Config as mentioned earlier.

    Thanks

  • Shraddha,

Thank you for the picture. P3 jumper must be installed.

EVM user guide link is shown below.

    https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/swru546c/swru546c.pdf Refer to chapter 3

For standalone mode of operation, you need change the switch setting (S1) on the module board and use appropriate SOP setting depending upon flashing mode or default functional modes and you need to apply reset push button.

For the area scanner application form industrial toolbox 4.2.1, Hardware should be compatible for running the application. You may want to check you are not exceeding the UART board rate limits for the application. Lowering the frame rate might be helpful.

If the problem persist  for the area scanner application form industrial toolbox 4.2.1 please raise a new thread so that it would be helpful for others as well.

    Thanks and regards,

    CHETHAN KUMAR Y.B.

  • Thank you Chethan for you response.

It gave additional information for us.
