AWR6843: Is the maximum usable temperature that operates normally?

Part Number: AWR6843
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843, IWR1843, , IWR6843, AWR2243

Hi

Is the maximum usable temperature that operates normally according to the following formula if the average power consumption of the SoC is 2.5 [W], ?

AWR1843: Tcase: Tj=125°C, RΘJC=4.2°C/W => 125 - (4.2*2.5) = 114.5 °C (Tc)
Tboard: Tj=125°C, RΘJB=5.7°C/W => 125 - (6.7*2.5) = 110.75 °C (Tb)

IWR1843 :Tcase: Tj=105°C, RΘJC=4.2°C/W => 105 - (4.2*2.5) = 94.5 °C (Tc)
Tboard: Tj=105°C, RΘJB=5.7°C/W => 105 - (6.7*2.5) = 88.25 °C (Tb)

AWR6843:Tcase: Tj=125°C, RΘJC=4.92°C/W => 125 - (4.92*2.5) = 112.7 °C (Tc)
Tboard: Tj=125°C, RΘJB=6.57°C/W => 125 - (6.57*2.5) = 108.575 °C (Tb)

IWR6843:Tcase: Tj=105°C, RΘJC=4.92°C/W => 105 - (4.92*2.5) = 92.7 °C (Tc)
Tboard: Tj=105°C, RΘJB=6.57°C/W => 105 - (6.57*2.5) = 88.575 °C (Tb)

AWR2243(P):Tcase: Tj=140°C, RΘJC=5°C/W => 140 - (5*2.5) = 127.5 °C (Tc)
Tboard: Tj=140°C, RΘJB=5.9°C/W => 140 - (5.9*2.5) = 125.25 °C (Tb)

Thanks and Best regards,

HaTa.

  • HaTa-san,

         Above information is correct, Please note that, thermal resistance numbers are arrived based on JEDEC 2S2P and JEDEC 1S0P specifications.  And this standard defines number of layers, Cu thickness, board dimensions to have apple to apple comparison of thermal resistance across different devices.

    However, for actual application conditions these numbers would be different (depending upon PCB size, Layers, Cu thickness etc).

    And system thermal resistance parameter need to be re-computed on a EDA thermal simulation platform such as ICEPack from Ansys or FloTHERM from Mentor or any other tools to get accurate estimation of thermal parameters.
