HDC1080: Poor consistency

Part Number: HDC1080

Hi team,

Our customer has the following questions

1. When HDC1080 is higher than 70 ℃, the humidity measurement value of HDC1080 has drift. Is there any way to determine the drift? How to determine it?

2. After aging at 80 ℃ for half an hour, will the humidity drift disappear when the temperature returns to normal temperature?

3. After reflow soldering of HDC1080 , it is found that the consistency difference is very big. For the same batch of products, the maximum error difference is about 15%. What should be paid attention to in the welding process of this sensor? How to improve the consistency of mass production?

    Thank you for posting.

What is the drift of the humidity measurement value? Is it positive or negative? Additionally, has there been any chemical exposure to the sensing element?

The ambient operating temperature of the HDC1080 humidity sensor is -20°C to 70°C. The humidity sensor will remain functional up to 85°C but will drift, particularly at higher humidity levels. These temperature specifications can be seen in section 7.3 of the datasheet.

Baking is usually recommended for positive offsets, but is not guaranteed to correct drift.

Section 9.3 of the datasheet specifies soldering procedures and chemical exposure precautions. Follow the standard soldering profile IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020 with peak temperatures of 260 °C. Use no-clean solder paste and do not wash the board. It's recommended to limit the HDC1080 to a single reflow cycle.
