AWR2243: long range detection

Part Number: AWR2243

Dear TI support,

we would like to detect stationary targets with -35dBsm RCS on a flat surface from max 200m (range resolution is not a limitation).
Based on your mmWaveSensingEstimator tool it should be possible using highly directional antenna (>35dB gain) - could you please confirm this?

Considering that the velocity and the angle of the object (angle can be derived from radar orientation) is not of an interest to us do you think it is possible to use all 4 RX channels together with one antenna to improve the SNR?

Thanks and regards
/Ágoston

  • Hello Agoston,

Our expert will get back to you by the end of this week or early next week.

    Thankyou for your patience.

  • Hello Agoston,

Theoretically the gain computation you have done should work. But the challenge incase of static objects is that if there are stronger nearby objects then the desired object maybe get submerged in those since there is no velocity domain to separate them. So it depends on the scene really.

You could use single antenna for all 4Rx , but may sure you match the routing from the antenna to each of the RX very well.

    regards,

    Vivek
