Getting the right mmWave Development Kit.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843AOPEVM, IWR6843ISK-ODS, MMWAVEICBOOST

I am looking for an industrial (IWR) mmWave development kit so I can understand it capabilities and further develop application. At the moment, I would like to use it for fall detection but may need to use the development kit to develop other applications too.

I have checked the IWR overview page with comparisons of different IWR IC but I still don't quite sure which is the best that suit me. Could anyone help on this? Thank you very much!

Also, what is the difference between IWR6843AoP and IWR6843

AOP has the antenna on the package so the form factor is smaller. 6843 is to be used with an off-device antenna such as the PCB antennas used in our EVMs. There are two flavors of PCB antennas one intended for high range applications w/ narrow elevation FOV (ISK) and the other is symmetrical, wide FOV with shorter range ISK-ODS).

Essentially the main difference in the different EVMs is the antenna. You can compare them here: https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=AKu-aTm5FIcxlwZJU1pLBw__VLyFKFf__LATEST

  • Thanks for your reply. I have 2 more questions about the development kits and hope you won't mind to help:-

    - I am thinking to get IWR6843AOPEVM for fall detection application cause it has integrated antenna. I found this example experiment and it is using  IWR6843ISK-ODS. Can I use AOP version for fall detection?

    - Do we need a MMWAVEICBOOST board as well apart from the mmWave EVM board?

    Thank you very much!

    Hello,

    - Please see this thread for adapting to AOP:

    - No, the mmWaveICBOOST is needed for CCSDebug but not to run the demo. Refer to the EVM user's guide which will list the required boards for specific functionalities.
