IWR6843ISK: Clarity required on antenna board placement

Part Number: IWR6843ISK

Hello TI team,

We are using mmW board for our R&D testing, Since we have mechanical space constraint we are planning to tilt the antenna board 90deg clockwise with the help of additional adapter board (Note: carrier board will be placed as usual).

We are planning to design one board for that, so that carrier board will be still, antenna board shall be tilted. This board will be placed in between antenna board and carrier board.

Attaching concept images below

The question here is

1. How this will effect the performance in the sensing part ?

2. Do we have ready made solution for this changes from TI side?

3. Is it ok to proceed with this added adapter board between carrier board and antenna board ?

Expecting good response form the TI team. We have customer delivery based on this . We need to confirm the proceeding to our customer.

  • Hello Balasubramani,

Image in the above post did not appear correctly, Could you please re-post the image?

Also could you please help us which application you are trying develop? Are there any demo that you are trying to modify?

    Thanks and regards,

    CHETHAN KUMAR Y.B.

  • Hi CHETHAN,

I am posting it again here. But the application is same as head count with some extra logic (R&D work cannot reveal over this forum).

And we dont have enough space in our mechanical enclosure thought to re arrange it for our development. Please advise if anything we need to take care in prior.

  • Hello,

Thank you for sharing additional details, IWR6843ISK is used in the Wall mount people counting applications. This has higher gain in the elevation direction. Hence field of view is restricted in the elevation direction.

Please refer to below Antenna database for the radiation pattern

    https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=ANS49gohN4gX2.NvHAAGGQ__VLyFKFf__LATEST

When you rotate by 90 Azimuth field of view and elevation field of view would get interchanged, Hence you will have narrower azimuth FOV and wide elevation FOV that may not be suitable for wall mount people counting applications. Also angular resolution would get impacted w.r.t Azimuth and Elevation directions.

Orientation of the Antenna is important, hence you may consider below arrangement to reuse the Antenna radiation property as is.

    Thanks and regards,

    CHETHAN KUMAR Y.B.
