Hi,
I need to detect a drone using a radar module. Can you tell me what is the best radar for this purpose?
I need a solution that returns range data with high precision.
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
All Ti' mmwave devices are completely programmable when it comes to chirp. This decides the sensing capabilities of the configuration. Based on the type, size of the drone please estimate the sensing needs for detection - like max speed, distance, RCS value of the drone.
Depending on the regulation needs either a 77Ghz IWR1843 or 60Ghz IWR6843 may be a good EVM to try out detection and data collection.
We highly recommend you go through the following:
mmwave training series to understand the basics of detection: training.ti.com/mmwave-training-series
See how objects at different distances are detected by various chirp settings: mmWave Radar Sensors: Object Versus Range
Check some of the experiments done with mmWave devices: dev.ti.com/.../node
Configure chirp for required device using: Programming Chirp Parameters in TI Radar Devices (Rev. )

Hope this helps you get started.

Hi Vaibhav,
Thanks for the reply. Why did you indicate for example IWR6843 instead of AWR6843?
What are the benefits of the industrial version?
Best regards,

Hello
AWR6843 is Auto qualified version of the device, that enables ASIL B implementation at system level.
IWR6843 is Industrial version of device that allows SIL-2 implementations at system level.
You may choose either of them bases on applications requirements. Please see Product Data sheet for details.
Thank you,
Vaibhav
