Hi Team,
A customer would like to know if our humidity sensors such as the IP67 rated HDC2022 can be use to measure the humidity of the soil. Will the soil affect the accuracy of the measurement if it will be use directly on the soil.
Regards,
Danilo
Dear Danilo -
The moisture in the soil is water, not water vapor, and is usually measured with a galvanic cell inserted in the soil and then also connected to an ADC (either built in to an MCU or external and connected to MCU).
I would imagine here if someone were to develop similar purpose sensor with HDC device, if it works, would require a little bit of experimentation and development to get results out of it that made sense or matched what is coming out of one of these dedicated moisture sensors.
so the answer here is, not really sure, because I am not aware of anyone internally trying that use case - is this an opportunity use case that you think we should take a look at?
