MMWCAS-RF-EVM: MMWCAS-RF-EVM tutorial with mmWave Studio or HSDC

Part Number: MMWCAS-RF-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVE-STUDIO

greetings,

anywhere can i found  tutorial or starter code with mmWave Studio or HSDC? I basically need to save captured mmW sensor raw data into a file. The only one I found so far is (http://software-dl.ti.com/ra-processors/esd/MMWAVE-STUDIO/latest/exports/mmwave_studio_cascade_user_guide.pdf)

Thanks

Jet.

  • Hi,

It seems that you want to record raw data with the mmwave cascading kit.

You are correct, the mmwave_studio_cascade_user_guide.pdf is the document that provides the steps to capture raw data.

Please let us know which step is not clear so we can assist you

    thank you
    cesar

  • Hello Jet,

    1. Yes, you are right. Currently, we have mmWave_studio_cascade_user_guide.pdf to help users get a kick start on cascade evaluation. The user guide is a well comprehensive document for our new users to understand the board functionality with mmWave studio.

    2. Furthermore, Our FAQ page also lists most of the documents users might need for reference. Please see below:

    3. We also provide various example scripts with the mmWave studio package for cascade evaluation, details of which can be found in the user guide.

The scripts can be found here: <installation_directory>\ti\mmwave_studio_03_00_00_14\mmWaveStudio\Scripts\Cascade

    4. Lastly, if you have any other concern, you're most welcome to reach out to us by posting a query on this forum or read some previously answered threads asked by fellow users.

Thankyou for using mmWave devices! Happy Learning!

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • hi cesar and ishita

thanks for your kind reply. I find the document is very detail and helpful.

Btw, can the mmW cascade & DSP board work in a standalone mode, where it can be disconnect from the laptop for a peroid of time and continue connecting data itself. As we plan to place it on a moving robot.

    Best.

  • Hello Jet,

Please take a look at the TDA2x demo source code which is provided as part of the PROCESSOR SDK RADAR. This package has the Radar usecase for single/cascade AWR. In this use case, the mmwave sensors on the MMWCAS-RF-EVM are configured using code running on the Jacinto TDA2x processor. The firmware patches required by the mmwave sensor are built as part of the code executed on TDA2x device.

    Ishita

  • Ishita,

thanks for the kind reply, that's great.

could you also take a look at anther problem https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/945989 , thanks

  • hi Cesar,

A quick question for the power supply. Is 12V-5A is a must, will 12V-3A will do?

As we plan to place the mmW board on a robot, and make it  work with portable battery. While most battery support 12V-3A, and 5A is pretty hard to find and was told it is bit dangerous in portable battery.

    Best.

    Jet.

  • Hello Jet,

Yes, typically we recommend using a 12V-5A power supply, but the minimum requirement is atleast a 3A rating.

  • hi ishita,

    i see, thanks
