MMWCAS-RF-EVM: Meta Image download erro during device configuration of mmW cascade RF EVM on mmW Studio 3.0

Part Number: MMWCAS-RF-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243

greetings,

My problem is fully record on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqEtb19B8lQ )

I am currently follow the user guide (https://software-dl.ti.com/ra-processors/esd/MMWAVE-STUDIO-2G/latest/exports/mmwave_studio_cascade_user_guide.pdf), while at page 17, 7.3.2 Device Configuration about Select the Meta Image from the BSS FW Selection and click Load , I met the problem firmware load error

```
[23:40:21]  [RadarAPI]: ar1.DownloadBSSFw_mult(1,"C:\\ti\\mmwave_dfp_02_02_02_01\\firmware\\xwr22xx_metaImage.bin")
[23:40:21]  [RadarAPI]: ar1.DownloadBssFwOvSPI_mult(1, C:\\ti\\mmwave_dfp_02_02_02_01\\firmware\\xwr22xx_metaImage.bin)
[23:40:22]  [DeviceId-0] MSS ESM Fault error status Async event recieved(0x0, 0x2000000)
```

Let me know if you find anything wrong or any solution.

Best.

Jet.

  • Hello Jet,

    There are two parts to this :

    1. You only have to download one firmware i.e. is the meta image in the BSS path, keep the MSS firmware field as blank.

    2. Secondly, I see you're using MMWCAS-RF-EVM ES1.0 with DFP 02_02_02_01. This firmware package only supports ES1.1 devices (see the release notes). Please use the compatible firmware i.e. DFP 02_02_00_03 with your ES1.0 board.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • hi ishita,

    thanks for your kind reply.

    I try your solution, full recorded video at (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnh4rk6SOPE ), the output told me the download is wrong, while the RF power-up passed ... Does it look correct?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Hello Jet,

    Can you summarize the steps you follow until RF power up? I see a MSS fault error in your log just after SOP set. After SOP set, you directly have to press SPI connect. Download the firmware after that and then click on RF-Power up.

    Please restart studio and follow the above steps exactly.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • hi Ishita,

    Check on new record video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGKxo_aTGuk

    I follow exact the step in the manual. Thanks for pointing that out, for the error in yellow I thought it was warning and not sure if it matters.

    ```
    [12:10:20]  [RadarAPI]: ar1.FullReset(1)
    [12:10:20]  [RadarAPI]: Status: Passed
    [12:10:20]  [RadarAPI]: ar1.SOPControl_mult(1,4)
    [12:10:20]  [RadarAPI]: Status: Passed
    [12:10:24]  [DeviceId-0] MSS CPU Fault error status Async event recieved(0x3, 0x0,0xFFFFE580, 0x0,0x0, 0x0,0x0, 0xFFFF,0xFF, 0xFF,0xFF, 0xFF)
    [12:10:24]  [RadarAPI]: ar1.PowerOn_mult(1, 0, 1000, 0,0)
    [12:10:24]  [DeviceId-0] MSS power up done async event received!
    [12:10:24]  [RadarAPI]: Status: Passed
    ```

    Best.

  • Hello Jet,

    I will check this MSS fault error with the studio team and let you know by tomorrow.

    Also, there was one more thing that I noticed in your recorded video. You're following the correct steps in case of master device, but for the slave, I see you're not downloading the Firmware. As mentioned in the user guide, you've to first set the SOP mode and press "SPI connect" for each of the slaves individually and then select all the slaves and download the firmware for them. You can collectively press "RF Power up" also for all (see the steps in the guide below).

    You HAVE TO download the firmware individually for slaves and master.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • Hi Ishita,

    Thanks for point out, I am aware of set up slave chips. Here I just present and focus  MSS fault error, which have to be done before setting the slave.

    Best.

    Jet

  • Hello Jet,

    This will not affect the capture in any way, please configure the slave devices properly and continue with your experiment.

    It is a known error in AWR2243 ES1.0 devices during boot up, but it doesn't affect the functionality.

    Regards,

    ishita

  • hi Ishita,

    thanks, I can now successfully connect data, with ignore this bug.

    Best.
