IWR6843: Doppler Spurs in data

Part Number: IWR6843

I'm working with the IWR6843 demo board. I've examined several chirp parameter sets to achieve max ranges of between 90 and 300 meters and a range resolution between 0.5 and 3 meters. However, no matter which parameter set I choose, I see a few (1 or 2) spurs in the range/Doppler data which create false alarms for my detection algorithms. The location of these spurs in range and Doppler seem to be dependent on the chirp and it's hard to predict where the spurs will be for a given chirp parameter selection. This issue happens with every board I have.

I am wondering if you could explain to me the causes for the spurs and if their location in range and Doppler is predictable from the chirp parameters. Are there any plans to mitigate/remove spurs in future revisions of the chip?

  • Hello

Can you please confirm that you are using TI's IWR6843ISK board.

For the issue reported - can you please establish relationship between the spur frequency and:

    1. Slope changes for FMCW ramp

    2. Sampling frequency change

    3. BW of chirp change

    4. TX power Changes, Rx Gain changes

    5. Tx-RX pair combination.

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav
