DRV5032: How to implement TP-92

Part Number: DRV5032

Hi support team.

My customer is considering TO-92 package of DRV5032.

So they have three questions.

Q1:

They want to fix the space surrounded by the red square in the figure below. What kind of method is there?
Is there only a way to use spacers?

Q2 : Please tell me the size of the width of the protrusion of the lead of the TO-92 package. (Including tolerances)

Is it possible to stop using the protrusion of the lead with the hole size (φ0.75) shown in figure of the land pattern example?

Q3 :

Does it affect the detection accuracy when implemented as shown in the figure below? Are there any other issues?

I would appreciate it if you could reply.

Best regards,

Higa

  • Higa,

Your attached images did not get uploaded to the thread correctly.  I have seen sometimes that copying and pasting into the text body does not upload them correctly.  Instead, please save the image and then upload using this icon.

I will try to answer without the images.

    1.  I believe you are asking about how to ensure that the height of the TO-92 sensor is fixed during installation.  The only options are to insert the leads fully so that the device is resting on the PCB or to add spacers.  The tabs that appear on the leads in the image are remnants of the lead frame assembly process and are not controlled.  They cannot be relied upon to guarantee placement.  Sometimes users will bend leads as well to set the install height, but we do not recommend this either as it may stress the packaging and impact device reliability.

2.Again, for the protrusions, we cannot guarantee that these may be used for spacing as variations may result in the tabs being too small to stop the device from fully inserting into the installation site.

3.This is unclear without the image.

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • Higa,

Thank you for getting me the images.  For questions 1 and 2, the above response applies.  We cannot rely on the width of the tab and do not recommend bending the leads as it may cause unwarranted package stress.  This leaves only the option of spacers or installing the sensor flush with the PCB.

Question#3 you are requesting the impact on performance if installed flush with the PCB.  The device will operate well under this condition.  What must be understood, however, is the physical relationship to the magnet.

Consider the image on the right. If starting from a perfect alignment, we would anticipate to see a reduction in magnetic flux density for small vertical shifts.  This is because more of the vector will be aligned to another axis when this happens.  If the sensor were shifted downward too far, instead of sensing a positive magnetic flux density, it may be possible to detect a negative flux density.  How much this small shift will impact performance will depend entirely on the mechanical alignment of the system and the magnet geometry.
