HDC2022: Heater Operation

Part Number: HDC2022
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HDC2080

Hi Brandon,

I want the high precision humidity value in high humidity environment with HDC2022, but i am facing the drift issue in high humidity environment.

I am investigating the heating method of HDC2022 now. I heard that heating operation is affect for life in former question.

What can happen to a device if the heater is over-operated?
Will it return abnormal value, especially humidity value ? If so, is it higher value or lower value?
Or Does HDC2022 return an error status?

Your reply will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

This will result in premature aging of the device. From an output perspective this would mean that the %RH and temperature drift that is typically associated with aging would be accelerated. It is also possible that the device would fail sooner than the lifetime it was designed for.

While the heater is running it definitely will. The temperature and humidity values while the heater is running are not valid and will typically be lower.

If you are just concerned with prolonged heater running, then the drift could be in either direction, but for humidity it is typically positive.

The only error message the HDC2080 would be able to send is in the form of an I2C NAK to a valid command. This could happen if the device failed after accelerated aging, but it is not a reliable way of detecting overuse of the heater.
