TDC1011: TDC1011 - How should I connect RTD pins when I don't want to use PTxxx series.

Part Number: TDC1011
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR6043

Hello,

I'm designing a small LPG gas tank level meter with TDC1011.

The gas tanks are steel and carbon fiber, so I can't use PT500 nor PT1000 to check the temperature, so I should use chip type temp sensor to compensate the speed of ultrasonic sound.

In this case, should I select config reg #2, meas-mode "0 TOF mode" and left open the Rref, RTD1 and RTD2 pins?

Or just connect 1Kohm in Rref and left open RTD1 and 2 like the TDC1000-C2000 evm?

Thanks,

Shunn.

  • Hi Shunn,

The EVM provides RREF on the board to aid with evaluation, but if you cannot use a PT500 or PT1000 then as you mentioned, you can leave the pins open and set MEAS_MODE to 0. I recommend posting further temperature sensor questions in the temperature sensors forum.  Our experts there can answer any further questions and help with selecting the best part.

The TDC1011 temperature interface specs may help guide your sensor selection:

If you discover a need for higher accuracy and resolution, we also recommend the MSP430FR6043 for liquid/gas level sensing as well as flow metering.
