DRV5057: DRV5057 for motor driving

Part Number: DRV5057

Hi team,

I wonder if DRV5057 has use cases that are used for motor driving application. I don't think there will be no functional concern in hall-effect sensor, but i wonder if it's usual to use this part for motor driving, because it seems my customer is looking into this part for their antenna tilt control unit.  Thank you for your prompt response!

  • Ella,

Using the PWM output of the DRV5057 as a motor driver is not a use we have seen.  The maximum continuous output current is only 20 mA, and my understanding is that motors require a somewhat more complicated PWM input for proper motor control.

However, DRV5057 is useful in detecting the change of a magnetic field and the PWM output is useful in transmitting the signal over distance or otherwise noisy environments.  So it might be used in a motor to determine the state of the various coils.  Typically, however, Hall effect latches are more common in this use case than linear sensors.
