AWR2243BOOST: Use without DCA1000EVM J1 USB port

Part Number: AWR2243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM,

Hi,

We have received a faulty DCA1000EVM part - the J1 USB connector fell off immediatly during regular use. Case number: CS0337065.

While I wait for your customer service response regarding this issue, I am trying to figure out a way to keep working.

Can AWR2243BOOST be used on its own for capturing data and working with mmWaveStudio ? Alternatively, can AWR2243BOOST & DCA1000EVM work without the J1 USB connector ?

Any help would be appreciated,

Yotam.

  • Hello Yotam,

DCA1000 EVM would be required for capturing raw data from AWR2243BOOST EVM. Also, you would need to connect a USB cable to the J1 connector on the DCA1000 board for connection with mmWave studio.

If its only the J1 connector that fell off, you need not worry about this. If it is possible at your end, just solder the USB connector back in the slot properly and your board will be good to go.

  • Thanks Ishita for your response.

I've solder the USB connector back in the slot and tried to move on with the setup.

However, I'm still unable to see the AR-Devpack-EVM ports in device manage. In fact, I don't have any indication that the PC detects the DCA1000EVM being connected to it. This is opposed to the AWR2243BOOST - for which I see two COM ports and my PC detects it as a USB device.

I have followed the guides for DCA1000EVM and mmWaveStudio and have installed mmWaveStudio, matlab runtime, C++ Redistributable, ftdi. I therefore suspect that problem is stil with the J1 USB port.

How can I test it is working? Should the PC detect it as a USB device?

    Thanks,

    Yotam.

  • Hello Yotam,

Yes, the PC should detect a USB connection. Although, you might not get "AR-DevPack" ports because the FTDI drivers may not be installed, but it should show some unrecognized ports.

If you're atleast able to see some unrecognized ports, refer to section 2 of mmWave_studio_user_guide.pdf for steps on installing the FTDI Drivers.

    Regards,
