Dear Sir/Madam,
We are designing a radar based on the AWR2243P operating in cascade mode, where we will need an external 20GHz LO buffer amplifier to meet the minimum LO input level requirements.
So I am trying to understand what would be the required linearity and noise figure of an external 20GHz LO buffer amplifer.
So would you be able to give guidance on:
1. What would be the required 2nd, 3rd and 4th harmonic level performance of an external 20GHz LO buffer amplifer? So this is the level of these harmonics relative to the carrier level in dBc. Or else the required level of back-off from the input 2nd order and 3rd order intercept points (IIP2 and IIP3) for an external LO buffer amplifier?
2. What amplifier noise figure specification is recommended?
Or otherwise if it hard to provide this information then is it possible to give an indication of the performance of the internal LO buffers on the AWR2243 so we can try and match the performance with an external buffer amplifier. So this would be:
1. Output second order and third order intercept points of the AWR2243P 20GHz LO output buffer amplifier (master)?
2. Input second order and third order intercept points of the AWR2243P 20GHz LO input buffer amplifier (slave)?
3. Noise figures of the AWR2243P 20GHz LO input and ouput buffers?
4. Maximum level of 2nd, 3rd and 4th order harmonics that can be tolerated at the AWR2243P LO input (slave)?
5. Level of 2nd, 3rd and 4th order harmonics at the output of the AWR2243P 20GHz LO output buffer (master)?
I know I have asked a lot of questions here, but in essence I am looking to understand what linearity and NF we need specify for an external 20GHz LO buffer and so any information that you can provide to help us determine this would be most appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
Jonathan Jones
