PGA900: Doubt for ground connection when configured into 4-20mA current mode

it might be a stupid question since I found nothing after several days of searching.

Basically, what has been confusing to me is the ground connection of the chip. in the current mode, as the drawing shows, output buffer together with external device forms a nominal current regulation loop. However, the feedback is connected to the chip reference point, which in my understanding should be vss/ground. Is the chip vss connected to the ground plane? or indeed it is floating, but guess that's not nice for the p-substrate.

    Yes, the PGA900 VSS/ground is separate from the current loop, although it is not technically floating. The device ground is separated from the current loop by a fixed 40ohm resistor internally. This can be seen in the output stage diagram shown in the Typical Applications section of the datasheet here:
