TDC1000-C2000EVM: Support with GUI set-up needed

Part Number: TDC1000-C2000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC1000

Hello,

I hope you are well.

I'd like some help with testing various ultrasonic sensors please, using the TDC1000-C2000EVM kit.

The sensors I'm using are:
- MA40S4R - 40kHz
- MCUSD16A40S12RO - 40kHz
- MCUSD19A200B11RS - 200kHz

These are to be used for volume measurements, approximate height of 1m. Can you please advise what the settings need to be in the GUI for each? I'm able to get measurements (start and stop pulses show ok on the scope) however they don't work out to the correct distances.

Thank you!

Kind Regards,
Louiza

  • Hi Louiza,

First, for these frequencies, an external clock source must be used, since there is only built in clock division by powers of 2. Clock division is set in Config 0: TX_FREQ_DIV

Please see section 2.2 of the FAQ: TDC1000 Everything you need to know for ultrasonic ToF, to learn about the various device settings, and also section 8.4 of the TDC1000 datasheet provides helpful information for your understanding.

I recommend taking this information and trying to adjust the settings for your application as needed. If you run into issues with this or have further questions on setup, I'll be happy help you with them.

    Regards,

    Gabriel

  • Hey Gabriel,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I was wondering if you could also glance over my schematic below please, for any major red flags?

The SPI connections and SYS_CLOCK go directly to the MCU, everything else goes to an I2C IO expander. There's also pull-ups on CSB and ERRB.

    Kind Regards,

    Louiza

  • Hi Louiza,

    Two comments:

    - How is the 40kHz transducer connecting to TDC SNS?

    - The band-pass filter components are close to the values for a 1MHz transducer, which is how the TDC1000-C2000EVM comes OOB. For 40kHz you will need to change at least the HPF values. See page 15-16 of the TDC1000 datasheet.

    Regards,

    Gabriel

  • Hey Gabriel,

    Happy new year!

Thank you for your feedback - sorry I should have mentioned the above:

    - TDC_SNS is connected to a pad. I have another pad connected to ground where I'll try out various sensors. Does this sound correct?

    - I'll be fine tuning the filters today.

    Kind Regards,

    Louiza

  • That sounds fine.

    Happy new year!

    Regards,

    Gabriel
