Hey.
We bought from you IWR6843ISK rev B and MMWAVEICBOOST. We get radar data, but MMWAVEICBOOST creates 2 serial ports. We only want to use one for configuration and data retrieval. Is it possible? Is this possible without the MMWAVEICBOOST board?
IWR6843ISK has a UART, but what is that UART? Is it for data or configuration? Is it TTL or over LVDS?

Hi Alex,

I'm trying to understand your use case. What is the purpose of only using 1 serial port? If you are trying to not use the ICBOOST you can purchase the newer IWR6843ISK which you have linked to. This module will still create 2 serial ports because this is what the out of box demo firmware uses and is strongly recommend.

The UART is for configuration and does not have any relation to LVDS. A second serial line is provided for transmitting data out of the device. Receiving is not possible on this second port.

If you require the use of only one port, there is a hard-coded config (HCC) demo in the industrial toolbox. Using this demo the device will start chirping immediately, so no configuration will be required. You can then only subscribe to the serial port that outputs the point cloud data.

Well, if I use both UART ports, which IWR6843ISK pins should I connect to directly?

The UART ports are both emulated over the USB port. They are denoted by 'MSS_LOGGER' and 'RS232' in the schematic. Please find the schematic in the design files:

I wrote to you at the very beginning that I have IWR6843ISK rev B, there is no usb in it. And according to the scheme, there is only one uart on 57 and 59 pins 60 PIN HD CONNECTOR.
So how can I connect the IWR6843ISK rev B so that I can receive data and configure the device?

The RADAR_MSS_LOGGER pins are related to the SPI2, where can I find information on transferring data over this interface? Is this a configuration interface?

Or is this SPI2 pin used as RX for configuration in the software? When configuring the TX pin is not needed?

When controlling via MMWAVEICBOOST, you need to switch the BOOT pin and pull the NRST after the firmware. When using IWR6843ISK without MMWAVEICBOOST, do I need to do this? If so, where are these pins?

Hi Alex,

IWR6843ISK Rev B does not work without the MMWAVEICBOOST. What exactly are you trying to connect it to? Is it a custom board? Please be clear on what you are trying to accomplish.

However, later revisions of IWR6843ISK will work without the MMWAVEICBOOST.

MSS_LOGGER is not an interface. It is the high speed point cloud data output. There is no receive functionality.

Why doesn't IWR6843ISK Rev B work without MMWAVEICBOOST? As I understood from other forum posts, RS232RX and RS232TX are used for configuration and operate at 115200 baud rate. RADAR_MSS_LOGGER output works like UART_TX and transmits data at 921600 baud rate. Isn't that so?

Can you give an answer about boot and reset, which I wrote about above?

What you say is true. If you would like to connect it that way, feel free to. But you also need to set the SOP mode, which is done with ICBOOST.

The NRST pin are needed when changing SOP modes, not necessarily for flashing purposes. I'm not familiar with the boot pin, please clarify. You can find the details of NRST on the schematic I linked above.

Again, please either explain or show an image of how you are connecting to the Rev B. Your method is not recommended, unless you are designing a custom board to connect to Rev B.

If you are looking for a radar device that operates without the use of MMWAVEICBOOST, please look into Rev D.

We connected to the IWR6843ISK rev B board. We added a pair of pull-up resistors where they are installed on the MWAVEICBOOST board. But the radar still does not respond to commands. At the same time, it starts to respond if we connect MMWAVEICBOOST. What did we miss when connecting?

As I have mentioned previously, Rev B is not ideal. Please use Rev D. Check that SOP mode are correct.
