AWR1843: MRRVisualizer doesn't show objects properly in my customized AWR1843 board.

Part Number: AWR1843
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

We made a customized board based on AWR1843Boost. In this board, we use XR21V1412 for USB interface.

The board works well with UniFlash, mmWave_Demo_Visualizer 3.5.0, lab00008_automated_parking's gui park_assist_visualizer.exe.

But when I test lab00007_mrr demo, the MRRVisualizer.exe doesn't show detection properly, most time the MRRVisualizer doesn't show any detected objects.

As the MRRVisualizer requests receiving data from XDS110 Class Auxiliary Data Port, I guess this is incompatible some how with the XR21V1412 UART interface.

Could you please check what reason causes this issue? Is it possible to solve it?

  • Hi,

Could you please explain what this means?

"most time the MRRVisualizer doesn't show any detected objects."

If you are able to to see objects on the GUI this means that the Host - GUI communication is working properly.

Please place a highly reflective object in front of the sensor and observe the detection on the GUI.

You should be able to see the detection.

If the performance detection is not as good as with the BOOST board, this could mean that there are issues with the Antenna on your board

    thank you

  • Hi

When I use that device to test lab00007_mrr, most of the time, MRRVisualizer does not display the detected target. Sometimes, several detected targets are displayed, but they disappear quickly.

This device and AWR1843BOOST use the same antenna settings. As I said in the question, I compared the performance of this device and AWR1843BOOST.

Other demo visualizers show that the performance of these two devices are the same, only the results displayed by MRRVisualizer are different. . I think the communication between the device and MRRvisualizer may not match.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

As I mentioned, usually when we verify the performance we use a corner reflector. We place it a different ranges and check the detected points.

It is possible that there are issues with the antennae. To characterize the RF performance of the antennae we usually use a corner reflector and collect raw data. Then we compute the Rx gain.

If you think that there are issues with the communication between the MRR gui and the target I recommend sending a known pattern of data from the target and check the integrity of the data on the PC side

    thank you
