TDC1000: TDC1000 Design Questions

Part Number: TDC1000

I am designing a PCB to integrate a TDC1000 with an atmega328P or 32U4

I want to measure liquid level using a single transducer and I have the following questions:

Can I use the TDC1000 in a basic mode, without SPI connection, and just use the START, STOP and TRIGGER pins?

If I need to use the SPI connection, can I have multiple TDC1000 on the same bus?

When connecting the single transducer, the datasheet didn't specify... Do I connect the positive lead of the transducer to the TX1 and RX2 pins. Is that correct?

  • Hello,

Can I use the TDC1000 in a basic mode, without SPI connection, and just use the START, STOP and TRIGGER pins?

While it is possible to operate the device without an SPI host connection, there is no other way to configure the device settings, so the default register settings would define the TDC1000's mode of operation. Please see the TDC1000 datasheet for the various configuration, control, and error registers.

If I need to use the SPI connection, can I have multiple TDC1000 on the same bus?

Yes. Please see this past E2E thread for details: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/t/946588https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/1023/p/949602/3509620

Connect the positive lead to TX1/RX2 in mode 0 operation and connect the negative lead to ground.
