AWR1243BOOST: Radar and captured the data using Radar Studio application

Part Number: AWR1243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1243

Hello Team,

My customer is working with AWR1243BOOST. The hardware supports Two Transmitters and 4 Receivers. So they have enabled Tx0 and Tx2 . They expect 4 channels (Tx0 with 4 Rx ) and another 4 virtual channels (Tx2 with 4 Rx). All the 8 channels data should be like different phases as shown in figure 5 from Attached image). But they are getting duplicate data for Tx2. (i.e 0 and 4 have same data: 1 and 5 have same data and so on.)

Is there any Source code for Radar Studio to compile and Debug?

Regards,

Renan

  • Hi Renan,

Both of the TXs need to have different phase setting and both should be used individually with each chirp to get 8 virtual Rx results.

See attached snapshots from mmWave Studio-

  • Hello Jitendra,

Good day and thank you for this response.

Actually my customer are trying with two transmitters (Tx0 and Tx2 enabled at same time). Does AWR1243Boost Radar supports TDM MIMO (Transmitters Tx0 and Tx2 enabled at same time in Radar Studio GUI) ? Is the issue with Radar Studio ? or Issue with AWR1243 radar hardware itself?\

They are enabling both transmitters Tx0 and Tx2 at same time for theexperiment. Is this possible ? Does this TDM MIMO support is there with AWR1243Boost radar ? or Does this support is not there in only with RadarStudio GUI ?

    Regards,

    Renan

  • Hello Renan,

FOr MIMO, two set of Tx alternate at each alternate chirp. i.e. Chirp-0 : Tx0, Chirp-1: Tx2 then repeat chirp-0 and chirp-1 in a frame multiple times.

Not if you want to use Tx0 and Tx2 together, that is also possible even with mmwave studio.

You need to select multiple Tx for the same chirp index setting in mmwave studio. Selection of multiple Tx at a time is independent of mmwave Studio.

Please note that AWR1243 support max 2 Tx enable at a time, whereas AWR1243P can support all 3 Tx enable at a time.
