Part Number: DRV5055
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC1312

Hi team,

My customer wants to detect check whether the gun exists in the holster, could you kindly tell me which socket can use in this application? DRV5055 or LDC1312?

Thanks for your help!

  • Hi Jiawei,

The choice of the DRV5055 or the LDC1312 is determined by the target. The DRV5055 is a Hall sensor solution and that will require the target to be a magnet. As the magnet travels the DRV5055 can detect the travel of the magnet. DRV5055 is very beneficial if you like to understand the precise distance. As the output is linear and can be connected to the ADC to know the position of the magnet. Have you considered using Hall switches ? They indicate if the magnet is present or not and its a simpler solution and would not require an ADC to decipher the position ?

For LDC1312 solution the target needs to be a metal. As the Metal is detected it would measure the change in frequency and the LDC would indicate the presence of the metal. For more information on the LDC and its application I would recommend that you refer to this app note

If its a Hall or a LDC what we would need would be the distance from the target magnet or metal and also the mechanical drawing to help recommend a solution here and discuss technical trade offs and also cost.
