Need help in choosing MEMS Accelerometer sensor for CbM In industrial application

Hi,

I have a requirement for vibration sensing in Industrial applications (Injection molding machine, extruder, and motor application).to monitor imbalance, misalignment, bearing, and Gear defects, and also displacements.

I was suggested to look for a wide range of acceleration sensing sensors (single/tri-axis) so that they can fit into all types of monitoring applications.

I was not told anything on the Vibration spectrum/profile.

Could you please help me choosing the sensor or start off with it?

Also, Does TI, offers any solutions for Oil property monitor sensor(Viscosity)?

Thanks.

  • Thank you for reaching out with your questions.  TI does not currently offer any accelerometer type devices.  As a reference, we do have an evaluation kit used along with our Haptic drivers, which you can view at

    https://www.ti.com/tool/DRV-ACC16-EVM

Depending on how the viscosity affects the speed of sound in the oil, it might be possible to measure this using an ultrasonic position sensor.  These devices use a transducer to emit a high frequency pulse and then measure the time of flight for the return echo.  While the volume of the oil remains unchanged, any differences in the return time might be attributed to the viscosity.   Properties of the oil under the various conditions would need to be well understood before implementing this option.  You can find more information on ultrasonic sensing here.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm specifically asking about Industrial CbM applications.

Do you have a reference EVAL kit to measure the properties of oil?

  • The above mentioned evaluation kit implements an accelerometer which is not a TI device.  The schematics are available in the user's guide, and if needed, It may still be useful as a reference for designing applications that involve measuring vibrations.

We do not have any specific evaluation module specific to measuring oil viscosity, but you might consider the kit below as an option for setting up time of flight measurements in liquids using ultrasonic transducers.

More guidance regarding liquid measurements is available in the FAQ forum in the link provided in my previous response.

    Thank you,
