AWR2243BOOST: Quality defects of AWR2243BOOST

Part Number: AWR2243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM, AWR2243

Hi, I bought a AWR2243BOOST in Jan.18th 2021. When I unpacked it in Mar.1st, I found that there was some rust on the copper of antennas. In addition, there is a long scratch under the antennas.

As you can see above, green circle refers to the rust and blue arrow refers to the scratch.

More than that, after I connected 5v power, only one LED glowed.

I tested that 5-V LED, the voltage at both ends of 5-V LED is 5v which indicated that this LED is broken.

I wonder if I can return or exchange this product.

  • Hi,

Was the board purchased from TI estore?

Our technical support team will review your information to make sure that board is not functional.

If the conclusion is that the board you have purchased is not functional you will need to contact the vendor to replace it.

    thank you

    Cesar

  • Hello,

It is perfectly normal to see some rust/scratching on the surrounding surface of the antenna. This is due to the immersion silver finish, it is purely cosmetic and will not affect the performance of the antenna.

Yes, it does look like the LED is broken. This EVM should still be able to work without the LED, I would recommend to just use it as is since it will not impact the performance but if you want to replace the EVM because of the LED you will need to go through the return process outlined on the TI page if you purchased the board directly from TI store.

  • OK, I'll just wait for my DCA1000EVM board to test this AWR2243BOOST. Pray that I can debug them together successfully. I'll give feedback at any time. Thanks!

  • Hello,

To make sure it works right now, can you confirm that you see the COM ports in the device manager when you plug in the USB cable? This will help confirm that the peripheral devices are getting power.

Also, can you please probe the VBGAP pin on C56 and see if you see ~0.9V? If you see 0.9V on VBGAP this means that the AWR device is powering up properly.

If the above two items check out it would confirm that your board is still working as expected.

    Regards,

    Adrian

  • Thank you very much! After installing emupack, two COM ports appeared in device manager:

And then I tested the voltage of C56 which is 0.885V:

    Is that right?

  • Hello,

Yes, 0.885V is good. That indicates that the AWR2243 is powering up correctly. I think that you should be able to use the boards without issue. If you would like to replace the failed LED, you can find the part number in the BOM provided in the design files on the product page, or you can just leave it as is and continue to use the board.
