DRV425: Range and FOV

Part Number: DRV425

Hi

Can anyone provide information regarding below queries which I am having before going to use this Part. I want to use this part for detection of Ferromagnetic object.

1) What is the maximum Range it will detect the ferromagnetic material

2) What is the maximum field of view of the sensor for detection of ferromagnetic object, whether it is 180 degree or more.

3) How to calculate the range it will detect the presence of Ferromagnetic object

  • Hello,

    1)  The distance of the material does not matter as this device just senses magnetic fields.  You would have to convert to magnetic field by simulation with software such as FEMM to determine the field seen at the DRV425.  See this post for max resolution of the DRV425., and this post.

2)This has one sensing element.  The way to look at it is the DRV425 has a point on the device to measure the magnetic field in on specific axis of the device.   See this post

3)I would use FEMM but keep in mind this just detect the magnetic fields.

You may actually want  to look at our induction sensors.  These are meant to measure distance See this Page.

  • HI

Can anyone provide the below information related to DRV425 Chip. I want to use this chip for Detection of Ferromagnetic object (Like safety Pin etc.) which may be carried by a human being while entering into MRI Room for Testing, so that we can avoid any accidental damage to a person or equipment.

    1) what is the range of detection of the sensor along with degree of range for Ferromagnetic object detection.

    2) What is the sensitivity of the sensor as how much minute particles or objects like a hairpin should also be detected.

    3) How to adjust the range of ferromagnetic object detection and what is the maximum range it will detect the Ferromagnetic object.

  • Chandan,

Like I said the DRV425 can only sense magnetic fields.  That is what it is designed to do.   The smaller the item the smaller it will change the magnetic field and only change it near the ferromagnetic material.

The DRV425 will only sense magnetic fields, not ferromagnetic materials distance from the sensor.  Ferromagnetic materials will modify the field but only in close proximity of it and relative to its size and the size and direction of the field generated.  This can be simulated in software such as FEMM so the field generated, how it is generated, size of object and material properties and be placed to determine the field change.

Where you planning to use earth's magnetic field?  If so you would need to be really close to the material that is ferromagnetic and would need to be about the distance close to the object and this would be relative to its size.

If adding an external magnetic field where and how are you going to add a magnetic field to determine how the field changes in presence of a ferromagnetic material?

What is the size of field you will generate?
