TDC1000: In GUI application, the tank level is not being changed when there is a change in water level in test cell.

Part Number: TDC1000
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , TDC7200, TUSS4470

Hi,

I have downloaded GUI through the given link and installed it. I followed steps as per the user guide but unable to get the proper level of liquid. Need assistance.

1.In GUI application, I can observe the change in TOF AVG VALUE and TOF STDEV but tank level is not being changed whenever the water level in the test cell is being varied.

2. I have used the settings from the below link ( 2.2 fluid level application example), my fluid level is less than 30cm, but getting TOF in 9984.532 ns range.

Can you help me out ?

Regards,

HariCharan.

  • Hello Hari,

Glad to hear that the you were able to set up the GUI and establish communication with the board. But for the issues that you are encountering the FAQ that you referenced above goes over the setup when using a TDC1000-C2000EVM while part of the settings do apply for your setup, if I am not mistaken and please confirm if you are using a TDC1000-TDC7200EVM is that correct?

    Best,

  • Hi,

Yes I am using TDC1000-TDC7200EVM setup.

    1. my tank level is less than 50cm. Assist me in changing the settings that are required to get the TOF value.

    Hari Charan.

  • Hello Hari,

    This documentation should help you:

    1.  www.ti.com/.../getliterature.tsp  -this document helps with how to mount transducers appropriately this tends to be a common issue on why there is no ToF flight data being returned.

    2. . www.ti.com/.../snaa220a.pdf  -this document contains useful information on the basics of level sensing

    3. Using the user guides for both  the TDC1000 and TDC7200 EVM's give you a good idea on how to setup the registers for each of the devices

My next recommendation would be to probe the START, STOP, and COMP_IN in order to see if you are even getting all the signals out of the device. If there is no COMP_IN data that could indicate that we are not receiving any data back or possibly might need more amplification. Feel free to send your screen capture of those signals.

On another note for liquid level sensing we typically recommend using the TUSS4470, especially since the logarithmic amplifier has a higher gain and can accommodate various uses more easily. You can read about this and other products in this link: e2e.ti.com/.../faq-ultrasonic-sensors

  • Hello Hari,

I will be closing this thread since you posted another one regarding this issue. Thank you!
