IWR1443BOOST: There is no object at a distance of 0.5 m in front of the radar, but there is a detected object at a distance of 0.05 m. Oxidation?

Part Number: IWR1443BOOST

Hello, there is a problem with the radar. There is no object at a distance of 0.5 m in front of the radar, but there is a detected object at a distance of 0.05 m. Oxidation has also appeared near the radar antennas. Is it interconnected? What could have caused oxidation?

Thanks for your reply.

  • Hello,

Can you please help us understand a few thins below:

    1. Is this a new issue , was there no such reflection when the board was new for the same configuration

    2. Does the reflection stay invariant even when you move the sensor to point towards different scenes.

    3. If you place a strong  metal/reflective object in close view of antenna such that it  within 0.5m range do you still see the 0.5m reflection.

    4. Have you tried the config option to refuce/cancel the near field reflection.

    5. Please share the config used.

    Thank you,

    Vaibhav

  • Yes, of course:
    1. Yes, this is a new issue. This problem appeared yesterday.
    2. In most cases, the false reflection remains unchanged.
    3. In most cases, there is no falsely detected object.
    4. I don't know about of this option.

  • Aleksey:

I am looking into this behavior with an expert and will report back to this thread once I have acquired an answer.

  • Aleksey:

I have consulted with an expert pertaining to your problem. Oxidation aka the production of silver oxide does not degrade performance of the antenna and by extension the device. From the picture you have shown it is possible that some form of corrosion has taken place. If this happens this can lead to detection of objects that are not present close to the device and result in weaker detection of objects farther away. Once way for you to try to account for this is to increase your CFAR threshold, but this will also increase probability of false alarm rate. In general, devices such as yours should be kept in a ESD container/bag when not in use to avoid possible environmental factors affecting the device.

    Best regards,

    Connor Desmond

  • Thanks for your fast reply.Do you mean the СFAR threshold is the cfarFovCfg parameter in the configuration file?

  • Aleksey:

Please refer to the cfarCfg CLI command to change the CFAR threshold to a lower level. The documentation on this command is located in the SDK User Guide at the following location on your machine:
