FDC2212: TIDA-01409 Example code support

Part Number: FDC2212
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01409, , FDC1004

Hello All,

I am working on a project similar with Automotive Capacitive Kick-to-Open Reference Design.I found that document

TI Designs: TIDA-01409 Automotive Capacitive Kick-to-Open Reference Design.

I want to use this board shematic and source code.

We have our design custom board similar with TIDA-01409 and I am using it now.I can get values and make configuration with succesfully.

I have struggled with Water effect.

In this document it seems like handled. So I need the source code that shows me how it is done.

I assembled the board on a plastic box. When I drop water on this box the values are changing like approaching human hand.Measurement values only change the first time the water hits the surface. If water dropping is finished, the values become stable and sensor still detect proximity of human hand.

The water drop falling on the surface creates the effect of a human hand and the sensor outputs.

I need the source code to get how to clear this effect.

e2e.ti.com/.../tida-01409-tida-01409-software

I have found the example source code above link. But this source does not include this algoritm.

Can you guide me to handle this effect please.

Regards.

  • Hello Emre,

    Thank you for posting.

The source code for TIDA-01409 is provided as an example starting point for this application. If your system requires additional calibrations or measurements this will have to be developed separately, as there is no additional source code provided for this design. For droplet sensing using the FDC2212, please refer to the following E2E thread and let me know if you have any questions: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors/f/sensors-forum/673002/fdc2212-rain-sensor-using-fdc2212

Additionally, we recommend the FDC1004 because it has active shield drivers to help minimize system parasitics and improve accuracy.

    Best regards,

    Nicole

  • Hello Nicole

    Thank you for reply.

    I will check FDC1004 also.

My goal is clear water effect. We are making a automative door handle sensor so this handle should detect human hand.

I can detect human hand now.But make water test on our sensor. The result is , water is also changing the sensor values .

The water effect values is similar with human hand.

I found the KICK TO OPEN document and in this document at this part 3.2.4.8 Wet Conditions ,water does not effect the system.

So I want to get information about "How to seperate human hand and water effects"

Your referrals will be very useful.

    Thank you.

    Regards.

    Emre

  • Hello Emre,

If possible, placing a reference sensor in the system may help to distinguish between rain/weather conditions and a human hand. If both sensors are being exposed to the same outside conditions but only one is in a position capable of detecting the hand, this may help differentiate between the water effect values and someone touching the door handle.

    Best regards,

    Nicole
