Hi Experts,

My customer is using MMWCAS-RF-EVM and MMWCAS-DSP-EVM . In Cascade mode, the synchronization for each MMIC is done by only Lo timing? Or can it be adjustable by SW such like SPI?

Regards,
Ken

  • Hello Ken,

In cascaded system, the following signals are used for synchronization :

    1. The Master devices is designated to generate a common Local Oscillator (LO) signal (19 GHz to 20.25 GHz) shared across all the transmitters and receivers (all 4 devices) for sync.

    2. The master also controls the radar chirp/frame timing for all the chips by generating a digital Sync signal and sharing this synchronization signal with the slaves.

    3. The master also uses a 40 MHz crystal and generates a 40 MHz oscillator clock and shares it with the slaves, thereby eliminating the need for additional crystals on the slaves and ensuring that the entire system operates from a single clock source

We have an Application note to talk about this entire synchronization system in cascade in detail. Here is the Link
