AWR1443BOOST: Missing xwr14xx_mmw_demo.bin

Part Number: AWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVE-SDK, AWR1443, UNIFLASH

Hi Team,

Our customer is looking for the xwr14xx_mmw_demo.bin file in MMWAVE-SDK_02.00.00.04. Upon checking the MMWAVE-SDK_02.00.00.04 from the two download links below, I noticed that the file sizes are different for the same version, 312836K vs 305505K. Please refer to the SDK in the links below.

www.ti.com/.../02.00.00.04

software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html

We can't install the SDK to our computers so we can't verify the content of the files. Please confirm if the xwr14xx_mmw_demo.bin are available in the SDK.

Here are additional inquiries from the customer.

For correct operation of mmWave SDK demos, this utility needs 2 binary images:

BSS : mmwave_sdk_<ver>\firmware\radarss\xwr12xx_xwr14xx_radarss.bin

MSS : For the SDK packaged xWR14xx demos and ccsdebug utility, there is a bin file provided in their respective folder

For demo mode, choose the binary file mmwave_sdk_<ver>\packages\ti\demo\xwr14xx\mmw\xwr14xx_mmw_demo_mss.bin from the SDK

I want to find the xwr14xx_mmw_demo_mss.bin file in in MMWAVE-SDK_02.00.00.04 not the other version

There is no such path " mmwave_sdk_<ver>\packages\ti\demo\xwr14xx\ " in my sdk files...

I couldn't flash the xwr14xx_mmw_demo.bin file which is in MMWAVE-SDK_02.01.00.04 to my evm

Now I have three sdk versions which are 1.2, 2.0, 2.1

I can only run the demo in 1.2 version.

This is the screenshot of the error while I tried to flash the only xwr14xx_mmw_demo.bin file to the evm

I know that two bin files should be flashed to the evm in sdk 1.2 but the user guide of sdk 2.1 said I only need to flash one file

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hello,

For AWR1443 device, I would recommend to use mmWave SDK 2.1 version which has xwr14xx_mmw_demo.bin binary at 'C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_02_01_00_04\packages\ti\demo\xwr14xx\mmw' location.

MSS and BSS binaries are combined into single MetaImage format binary file which is xwr14xx_mmw_demo.bin. SO from Uniflash you need to flash this single file to the device.

Now you need to confirm the ES version of the AWR1443 device you have, it should be ES3.0 version which SDK 2.1 supports.

mmWave SDK 1.2 support AWR1443 ES2.0 version. If SDK v1.2 is working with you that means your device is ES2.0 version, so for that SDK 2.x+ won't work.

Either you upgrade your silicon or use the current working SDK version.

    Regards,

    Jitendra

  • Hi Jitendra,

The customer wants to know whether AWR1443 which supports ES3.0 means another device. Also, he would like to know if he cannot update the device using his present ES2.0 device.

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Hi,

That is new silicon variant of AWR1443 device. ES2.0 was not production worthy whereas ES3.0 is ready to manufacturing device variant.

So they need to order new AWR1443 device from TI, currently in the store only ES3.0 will be available by default.

    Regards,

    Jitendra
