MMWCAS-RF-EVM: AWR1243 versus AWR2243

Part Number: MMWCAS-RF-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243, , AWR1243

Dear support team,

The description page (here: www.ti.com/.../MMWCAS-RF-EVM for the MMWCAS-RF-EVM system reads "...a four-device cascaded array of AWR1243 or AWR2243 devices" but it is not clear which chip will be included with the EVM when it is purchased, nor is it clear what the distinctions between the 1243 and 2243 are.

I have contacted Mouser electronics who are our preffered supplier, but they could not identify which radar system they had in stock and directed me to post here. They were able to tell me that their stock had the date codes 2038 and 2049. Do earlier date codes correspond to the 1243 chips and later ones to the 2243 chips?

Your assistance is appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Hello David,

Thanks for reaching out. We'll be happy to assist you and clarify your concerns.

Yes, you are right, there are two variants of MMWCAS-RF-EVM. One having a four device cascaded array of AWR1243P and the other one with AWR2243P.

AWR2243P is a next generation variant (2nd-Gen or 2G) of AWR1243P and hence AWR2243P cascade is the latest design. If your order a new MMWCAS-RF-EVM now, you'll be shipped with AWR2243 ES1.1 cascade device.

The only difference between the two variants of the cascade setup is the corresponding chip used to create the four device array. Please refer to AWR2243 datasheet (linked here) Section 6 for the device comparison parameters.

Hope the above information served it purpose. Let me know if you have other concerns.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • Dear Ishita,

thank you for the prompt response. As a follow up question, is there anyway to visually identify which chips have been used once we have the EVM?

    Sincerely

    David

  • Hello David,

Yes, the device name and silicon revision will be highlighted on the chip soldered on the MMWCAS-RF-EVM board.

Please refer to the "Device Markings" section of AWR2243 Errata document to understand the format.

    Regards,

    Ishita
