LDC0851: Minimum size of metal it can sense

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to use LDC131x, LDC161X and LDC0851 chips for metal object sensing. He would like to know what is the minimum size of the metal it can sense. He would like to know as well if it can sense aluminum, gold and nickel objects of about 2 mm size. His application is detecting small metal objects in fabrics.

Hi Danilo,

The target that is being detected should be at least as large as the sensor coil in order to maximize inductive response. In terms of target material, aluminum, gold and nickel would all be able to be detected by an LDC device, although gold would produce the largest shift in inductance due to its higher conductivity.
